Helping Your People Recognise, Own and Celebrate Their Achievements
How comfortable are your employees talking about what they have achieved?
For some people, sharing successes comes naturally. For others, it can feel uncomfortable, awkward or even a little boastful.
That can mean great work goes unnoticed, people underestimate the value they bring and employees are less likely to put themselves forward for opportunities, promotions or development.
That is exactly what #IAmRemarkable is designed to address.
At Haus of HR, we are delighted to now offer organisations the opportunity to bring a free 90-minute #IAmRemarkable workshop into their workplace, facilitated by Rachel Collar.
What is #IAmRemarkable?
#IAmRemarkable is an initiative focused on helping people recognise, celebrate and confidently talk about their achievements in the workplace and beyond.
The workshop explores some of the beliefs and biases that can make self-promotion feel uncomfortable and encourages participants to become more confident in articulating the value they bring.
Because self-promotion does not have to mean boasting.
It can simply mean being able to say:
“This is what I achieved, this is the contribution I made and this is the difference it created.”
That is a valuable skill whether someone is preparing for an appraisal, applying for a promotion, attending an interview, networking, taking on greater responsibility or simply trying to become more confident in their own abilities.
Why does this matter in the workplace?
As employers, we want people to recognise their strengths, contribute ideas and feel confident putting themselves forward.
But the reality is that some of your most capable employees may also be the people least likely to talk about what they have achieved.
They might minimise their contribution
They might immediately give all the credit to somebody else
They might assume their manager already knows what they have delivered
Or they might sit quietly while someone with greater confidence, but not necessarily greater capability - makes their achievements much more visible.
Over time, that can influence performance conversations, progression opportunities, confidence and engagement.
Helping employees become more comfortable talking about their achievements can therefore support much more than individual confidence.
It can contribute to a workplace where people feel recognised, valued and able to advocate for themselves.
What happens during the workshop?
The #IAmRemarkable workshop is an interactive 90-minute session combining discussion, reflection and practical exercises.
Participants are encouraged to think differently about self-promotion, recognise achievements they may previously have overlooked and practise talking about their accomplishments in a confident and factual way.
During the session, participants will explore:
why self-promotion can feel uncomfortable
how beliefs and biases can influence whose achievements are noticed
the importance of recognising and owning personal accomplishments
how to talk about achievements confidently and authentically
practical ways to make their contribution more visible
how to continue practising these skills beyond the workshop
It is designed to be thought-provoking, practical and accessible to employees at all levels.
Who could benefit?
One of the strengths of #IAmRemarkable is that it is relevant to a wide range of people.
You might choose to offer the workshop as part of:
leadership or management development
career development programmes
employee wellbeing and confidence initiatives
equality, diversity and inclusion activity
women’s networks or employee resource groups
talent and succession planning
personal development days
team development
apprenticeship or early-career programmes
It can also be particularly helpful for employees preparing for appraisal conversations, promotion opportunities or career development discussions.
Creating a culture of recognition
While the workshop focuses on helping individuals recognise their own achievements, there is a wider organisational benefit too.
It creates an opportunity to think about recognition and visibility across your workplace.
Whose achievements tend to be noticed?
Who is comfortable speaking up?
Who gets recognised for their contribution?
And are there talented people within your organisation whose work may be less visible simply because they are less comfortable talking about it?
These are useful questions for managers and HR teams to consider.
Good recognition should never depend entirely on how loudly somebody talks about their own success, but helping people develop the confidence to articulate their contribution can be an important part of creating a fairer and more supportive workplace.
Bring #IAmRemarkable to your team - free of charge
